Sustainable Campus Initiative - Youth as Agents of Change

The Sustainable Campus Initiative was started in 2014 for university students, staff and facilities management teams. All these stakeholders work together to understand sustainability on and around their campus. The EAD provides books and resource materials to assist the stakeholders undertake various activities on their campus.

Project Goals

  • to strengthen and build leadership capacity amongst the Emirate’s youth to address issues of environmental sustainability

  • to help them become the main agents of change in the Emirate by working towards and shaping sustainable communities

  • Project Objective

    to mobilize, support, connect, engage and promote our youth towards sustainability

    Project Components

    • Green Audit: a process to understand and measure campus resource usage, including Water, Energy, Land, Climate Change and Waste
    • Sustainability Action Project: managed by students to undertake activities on their campus and in the community
    • Green Youth Majlis: a monthly inter-college gathering for all registered students
    • International Networking Seminars: to be held periodically as part of the project to facilitate communication between global youth and Abu Dhabi youth through video conferences and participation in global youth sustainability events
    • Mentor Conference: an annual networking conference for all the mentors and coordinators from the registered colleges
